Power of Words: a Self-Love Practice

Power of Words: a Self-Love Practice

Start your day with positivity.

We don’t realise the magic and energy of words. The words in our heads, the words that we read, the words in the music we listen to, the words in the movies we watch, the words on the advertisements we see, the words that come out of our mouths, the words that we post on Facebook, the words on our Instagram posts, the words that we send to each other through email and Whatsapp.

We come across a lot of words everyday and they affect us big time.

Words are magic.

I taught a movement class last month, and at the end of the class I got everyone to sit down in a circle. Each person had to tell the person on their right something they admired about them. We went around the circle and there were beautiful compliments made from people who had just met.

“I love your energy. You are like sunshine, you lit up the room the moment you walk in.”
“I love your hair! It’s so curly, big and beautiful.”
“I love the way you move and how you are so comfortable in your body.”

There was so much love and appreciation in that room - I can still feel it now a few weeks later. It was such a beautiful moment.

I asked the class after our circle of appreciation, “When was the last time you spoke to yourself like that? What is your self talk like?"

Most people couldn't remember the last time they spoke lovingly to themselves.

There is a study done by Dr. Emoto illustrating the power of words. He typed different words onto pieces of paper and taped them onto glass bottles of untreated distilled water. He left them overnight to freeze and the results were astonishing.

The water crystals in the glass bottles with the words “love and gratitude” and “thank you” taped on to them froze as beautiful white snow flakes. The glass bottles with the words “You make me sick, I will kill you” froze as a yellow brown disturbing image.

Imagine what the words in your head do to the insides of your body, we are about 60% water.

Words affect our whole being. Our mind, body and spirit. So start your day with loving words. Start your day with gratitude. Take a moment, the moment you wake up and think of all the things you are grateful for. Write them down if you like. Just by doing this simple task, notice the energy you draw into your day. By being grateful, you attract more things into your life to be grateful for.

Albert Einstein puts it beautifully -

“Everything is energy and that's all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.“

Start with loving self talk and watch everything else blossom from there.

Be loving. Be grateful. Be yourself.
